WEEK 14

This is the section where I get to talk about the games for the week and tell you why I think my picks are correct. Yes, I do have to live with what I say, too. I will post The Reckoning each week to answer for my picks. I’ll also make some nominations for a few games:

Dive on in, and if you don't agree, I'm always willing to talk trash. Send me an eMail at plw_sports@yahoo.com.

Down to the wire, and I'm personally surprised at how many teams are still in contention. This is going to be a great season. Whether you like it or not, you can definitely say there is parity in the league. It should be very interesting in the next few weeks.

On to the games...

Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings
If this game were not in Minnesota, it would probably be a better game. I think regardless of where the game was played, the Vikings have the edge, but being in Minnesota makes it that much harder for the Lions.
** Vikings 27 , Lions 18

Arizona Cardinals at Cincinnati Bengals - Dennis Miller Bowl
I have had a very hard time picking the Dennis Miller Bowl this week. Jake the snake and the Bengals combine to be a pair that I really don't like, so they get this dubious honor.
** Cardinals 17 , Bengals 13

Dallas Cowboys at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
No one will believe the Buccs are back (and they shouldn't) unless they beat the Cowboys. They better beat the Cowboys if they want any chance at the Playoffs. Even if they win, though, many will still want to see other indicators that they are the team they were predicted to be.
** Buccs 27 , Cowboys 17

Denver Broncos at New Orleans Saints - Game of the Week
This is a hard game for me. The Saints seem to be a better road team than home team, and the indicators lean to the Broncos. But, I went against the Saints last week and they won. Also, Davis and Griese are out. That makes me more comfortable with picking the Saints, but this will be a close one.
** Saints 28 , Broncos 21

Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills - Big Dog Bowl
Another big game for the Dolphins. They seem to find a way to win the big games. Watch for the defense to make a big play to put this game away.
** Dolphins 17 , Bills 15

New York Giants at Washington Redskins
Two teams expected to do well, both seem to be struggling. The Giants can't seem to get the fire lit, and the Redskins can't play consistently. This is a big division game, but with Philly in the lead, these two are playing for Wild Card hopes.
** Redskins 21, Giants 15

Oakland Raiders at Pittsburgh Steelers
This game came close to being the Big Dog Bowl, but I think Gannon may be a bit too much for the Steelers defense. Gannon's arm will test the secondary, but his legs will win the game. Gannon will chew up the yards against the Steelers line.
** Raiders 27, Steelers 17

Seattle Seahawks at Atlanta Falcons
Another runner up for the Dennis Miller Bowl. It will be interesting to see which of the sub par teams is better. The stats show the Seahawks with a slight edge, but the Falcons have the home field. This is a tough game to pick. Look for Seattle to show up. I think Atlanta is feeling defeated.
** Seahawks 21 , Falcons 20

St. Louis Rams at Carolina Panthers
Can Carolina do it again? Well, their win over the Packers will have them playing with excitement. But Warner is back. I don't buy the media hype that Warner and Green are interchangeable. The most basic reason that the Rams loose is because they are outscored, and they score nearly 14 more points per game with Warner. The Rams should win this one even on grass.
** Rams 45 , Panthers 27

Tennessee Titans at Philadelphia Eagles
The Titans are not playing up to their potential while the Eagles are playing way above theirs. Don't look for that to change any time soon. This game is a toss up by the numbers, but the Eagles have home field advantage as well as momentum.
** Eagles 21 , Titans 17

San Francisco 49er's at San Diego Chargers - Scoreboard Bowl
Laugh if you want to, but this is going to be the highest scoring game this week. Both teams score high, and neither has a great defense. Plus the Chargers are coming of a very emotional win. Look for Cryin' Ryan to have another good game and pull his team up to even with the bottom of the League.
** Chargers 27 , 49er's 24

Cleveland Browns at Jacksonville Jaguars
Another runner up for the Dennis Miller Bowl. The Jags are still thinking they have a chance to make the playoffs, and until it is mathematically impossible, I don't guess we should eliminate them. That one fact though makes them a tought team to beat. Look for them to beat the Browns in a boring game.
** Jaguars 21 , Browns 10

Indianapolis Colts at New York Jets
This is runner up for game of the week, but the edge in this one goes handily to the Jets. Were this game in Indy, it might be closer. Look for the Jets to score early and often. Watch if you want to watch Peyton choke, yet again.
** Jets 27 , Colts 21

Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears
Green Bay is coming off a dissappointing loss in Carolina. The Bears no longer have anything to loose. This could be a great game between non-contenders. If Farve and the Pack shows up, they could win this easily, but the rest of the team didn't seem to be trying against the Panthers. Going with the numbers and they predict the Packers
** Packers 21 , Bears 14

Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots
As Monday night games go, this one is a MAJOR DUD! I want my money back. I wanna recount and a revote! The only good thing about this game (Keeping it from being the Dennis Miller Bowl) is that since I don't care, I don't have to endure Dennis Miller to see the game. I just won't watch.
** Patriots 17 , Chiefs 24
